The theme of this hop is the Hourglass Quilt Block. As most of you know, I primarily work in wool felt applique, and I'm not that experienced in quilting. I've never attempted the hourglass block before this hop, and it took me a few tries to get the hang of it. When I did, I created four 4.5" hourglass blocks. Then, I tried to figure out what to do with them, or if I wanted to make more. I did a lot of online searching, and finally decided to use my hourglasses to make a 12.5" Ohio Star block.
Then my new plan was to turn the block into a pillow for my office. I added a border to the block and did some simple in-the-ditch quilting.
Finally, I added a pillow back, sewed it together and stuffed it. Here's the completed 15" pillow:

ReplyDeleteThere Elizabeth, you got it!. Another tool for the toolbox, and a sweet pillow to boot.It's fun to stretch ourselves like that. Sometimes when I try, it bombs, but other times I smile, and think YES!

ReplyDeleteThe Ohio Star is one of my favorite blocks Elizabeth. I thought of making one for this hop, but I have a large pile of Ohio Star blocks that I never made into a quilt from 15 years ago, so no I didn't need to make anymore, lol! It makes a great cushion.
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job on this hourglass pillow...it turned out really pretty! Hourglass blocks are easy once you figure them out and they have become one of my favorite blocks to make. It's fun to see you step out into the fabric world, Elizabeth!
