This hop is all about gifts we can make to show someone how much they mean to us. I think small gifts are great for that, since making too many larger gifts during the holidays can get impossible.

I always seem to gravitate towards mug rugs and coasters for these blog hops, and for gifts that I make, so my project today is a combination of the two. Basically, large coasters, or small mug rugs lol.

I wanted to dig into my vast stash of wool felt, and use some of it up. I decided to make my version of the traditional Grandmother's Garden block; I really love hexis!

So here's the result; Grandmother's Garden Coasters/Mug Rugs:

I used different color combos based solely on what I had on hand. The hexagons have one inch sides, and the coasters are 6.5" squares (two per coaster; one for the backing). Seven hexagons make up each flower; with the center being gold.

I also dug into my stash of embroidery floss and used floss that matched the different wool felt colors as best as I could. The hexis are sewn down with a blanket stitch, and the coasters are edged that way as well.

I think a set of these would make a lovely, heartfelt gift!

Halloween Hoppin Blog Hop

A big thanks to Marian of Seams to be Sew for bringing us this hop!

Here's the list of today's participants:

The theme of this hop is obviously Halloween, but with the twist of using purple in our project. I wanted to do a small piece, and decided on a mug rug which seems to be my fallback idea for small projects!

As far what is on my mug rug, I chose my favorite scary character. Actually, it's the only scary character I ever want to watch in a TV show or a movie. I've never been a fan of horror films or stories; I don't particularly like being scared! But the one exception has always been shows and movies that feature vampires. Maybe that's because they're often portrayed romantically instead of straight-up scary.

So here is my project...a Vampire Mug Rug:

He's not exactly romantic, but he's more cute than scary I think. The mug rug is sewn up in wool felt and embroidery floss and measures 9" x 12".

If you want to make one for yourself, or for a vampire fan that you know, here's the FREE pattern:

Hello Fall Blog Hop

A big thanks to Carla of Creatin in the Sticks for bringing us this hop!

Here's the list of today's participants:

Living in New England (Massachusetts) I really love Fall. The air starts cooling, a welcome change from the Summer heat, and the leaves start turning. There's nothing like a wide expanse of colorful foliage on a bright Fall day!

So I decided to represent those beautiful trees in my own simple way...with a Penny Rug design. If you're not familiar with what a Penny Rug is, you can read up on it here. They are traditionally made with felted wool, but can also be made with wool felt, which is what I primarily use. You can read about the difference in the two materials here. I use National Nonwovens WoolFelt, which you can explore here.

My design is called "Fall Foliage Penny Rug." It consists of tree trunks, colorful foliage atop, and a pile of fallen leaves at the base of each tree. It measures 16" and can be used to adorn a table top:

It's quick to stitch up using embroidery floss that matches the WoolFelt colors.

It's a Garden Party Row Along

A big thanks to Marian for bringing us another great Row Along!
Here's a list of today's participants:
---------------------------------

This year's theme is, obviously, gardens/gardening. I decided to focus on the things needed to get a garden started/planted. My row measures 12.5" x 30.5" including outside seam allowance, and consists of eleven blocks.

The first, and biggest block, is the wheelbarrow. It measures 6.5" x 12.5" including seam allowance. It will be the centerpiece of the row.

Above the wheelbarrow are a glove and a spade. They each measure 3.5" x 6.5" including seam allowances.

Below the wheelbarrow are another glove and a fork. They each measure 3.5" x 6.5" including seam allowances.

On the left side of the row is a long-handled spade block. It measures 3.5" x 12.5" including seam allowance.

To the right of the spade block, are a watering can block and seedlings block. They each measure 6.5" x 6.5" including seam allowances.

On the right side of the row is a shovel block. It measures 3.5" x 12.5" including seam allowance.

To the left of the shovel block, are another seedlings block and a hat block. They each measure 6.5" x 6.5" including seam allowances.

And here's an illustration of the finished row with all the blocks in their spots:

You can download my FREE PATTERN HERE.

And here's a photo of my complete, sewn row:

The fabric used for the appliques was kindly provided by Northcott Fabrics.

Christmas in July (then and now) Blog Hop

A big thanks to Carol at Just Let Me Quilt for bringing us this hop!

Here's the list of today's participants:

***********************
The theme of this hop is "then and now" so I want to first show a couple of past projects (circa 2013). I've always loved poinsettias as a holiday motif/decoration, and have created a few designs using them. First, is a table mat/penny rug pattern I designed called "Potted Poinsettia Party":

The mat is made from wool felt and cotton fabric, and measures 16". It has button accents on the centers of the poinsettias. The pattern is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

The second project was a free one that I created to compliment the table mat. It's called "Poinsettia Gift Tag Ornaments," and the free pattern is still available for anyone who wants to make some.

***********************
And now for the now lol. For this hop, I created another poinsettia design. This one is also an ornament, but can also be used as a coaster, hence the name "Poinsettia Coasters/Ornaments." Here they are as coasters:

And here is one hung as an ornament:

This pattern is my giveaway to you all, and you can download it here.
