Quilt Qwazy Queens Blog Hop!

Quilt Qwazy Queens

I'm happy to be participating in another fun hop! A big thanks to Marian for all her hard work...and she did a lot of work to organize this one!

This hop is in honor of International Quilting Day, but to be perfectly honest, I'm not a quilter. I so admire what you quilters do!

I consider myself a sewer and crafter, and I primarily design and create wool applique. I began on my design journey by creating this yo-yo sunflower, which is a combination of cotton fabric and wool felt:

I submitted it to Create & Decorate Magazine (which unfortunately no longer exists), and got accepted! It was published, and that got me inspired to continue creating. I had several more designs published with them, and you can see them all on the right side of my blog.

Eventually, I started making my designs available as patterns. Here are some pictures of a few of my patterns:

You can find my complete line in my shops on Etsy and Craftsy.

As I said above, I'm not a quilter. However, I have played around with quilting and have made small projects here and there. About six months ago, I decided to try my hand at foundation paper piecing, and really loved the precise results that method offers. I made a small wall hanging, and I thought it came out well considering I'm such a novice!

Simple square-within-a-square blocks are surrounded by flying geese and then a plain blue border. I did a very simple stitch-in-the-ditch quilting. The fancy quilting most of you do totally intimidates me!

For this hop, I decided to do another paper-pieced project. I slightly altered some of the basket patterns I've seen on the internet.

Then, I added some appliqued flowers, and small square-within-a-square blocks on the ends, and turned the whole thing into a pillow. It came out OK, but in retrospect I probably should have added another border around the whole thing before assembling the pillow. The back is just a piece of fabric that I straight-line quilted. On the front, I did a very simple stitch-in-the-ditch quilting again.
