All About Strings Blog Hop

A big thanks to Carla of Creating in the Sticks for bringing us this hop. There have been so many amazing projects so far!

Here's the list of today's particpants:

I have to admit I had a hard time with this one. String piecing, even using paper foundations, (which I did), wasn't very easy for me. I ended up making a mini quilt, which was about all I could handle!.

If you saw my post for the QQQ blog hop, you know that I'm hoping to fill a blank wall in my sewing room with mini quilts. The mini I made for this hop will be the third one I've completed for the wall so far.

I made four 6.5 x 6.5" blocks, with different width strings on the diagonal. I then joined the four blocks together, added a border, some quilt-in-the-ditch quilting, and a binding. The mini-quilt measures approximately 14" square.

Here's the final result:
I do love the look of string piecing, and that it uses up scraps, and hopefully will tackle a bigger project in the future!

QQQ 2019 Blog Hop

I'm so happy to be participating in another one of Marian's (Seams To Be Sew) great blog hops! This one is her annual salute to International Quilting Day. Here is the list of today's participants:
March 19, 2019

Marian asked us to show a "crazy" project, or a project that turned out crazy. I don't have too many of those, but I did find a picture of one piece I had made years ago. I do a lot of hand sewing with wool and this was a penny rug I made that, in retrospect, was quite crazy to undertake! It measured 18" x 23" and as you can see involved quite a few pennies! (If you don't know what a "penny rug" is, check out this link.)

**************************************
I also wanted to do something new for this hop and I chose to view the term "crazy" as "ambitious." I have a wall in my sewing room that I decided to fill with mini-quilts...pretty ambitious right?

For this hop, I made two mini-quilts; far from filling the wall, but a good start! They're both paper-pieced, and I drew my own patterns for them. I won't say the patterns are 100% original, because they're influenced by free blocks I've seen around the internet. I will share the free patterns with you at the end of this post.

The first mini-quilt is a mini-spool quilt. The finished quilt measures about 14" square. The spool blocks measure 3 inches each.
The second mini-quilt is a button quilt, which also measures about 14" square. There are 3 inch button blocks around the outside and a 6" button block in the center.
Both mini-quilts used fabric from my stash, which is always great. I'm going to hold off hanging these on my blank wall since I do plan on making other mini quilts. I'll figure out the best way to lay them out on the wall when I have more made.
