A big thanks to Carla of Creating in the Sticks for bringing us this hop. There have been so many amazing projects so far!

I have to admit I had a hard time with this one. String piecing, even using paper foundations, (which I did), wasn't very easy for me. I ended up making a mini quilt, which was about all I could handle!.
If you saw my post for the QQQ blog hop, you know that I'm hoping to fill a blank wall in my sewing room with mini quilts. The mini I made for this hop will be the third one I've completed for the wall so far.
I made four 6.5 x 6.5" blocks, with different width strings on the diagonal. I then joined the four blocks together, added a border, some quilt-in-the-ditch quilting, and a binding. The mini-quilt measures approximately 14" square.
Here's the final result:
I do love the look of string piecing, and that it uses up scraps, and hopefully will tackle a bigger project in the future!

What a sweet mini and so pretty for your wall. Thank you, so much for joining the All About Strings Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteSew cute!
ReplyDeleteI love mini quilts, and your's is great. Mine are often even smaller. When making these string quilts, I often get a chance to use some of my old, or even "ugly" fabric stripes. This blog hop is so fun.
ReplyDeleteWoW Elizabeth, this is beautiful and uses fabric prints that I dearly love.. country prints and homespun... yummmy!!
ReplyDeleteYour mini is beautiful! And will look great with your collection! Thanks for the inspiration! I'm finishing up some donation quilts, and then I'm making a quilt for my grand niece using string blocks--I can't wait to get to it!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty mini! It will look great on your wall. I like using strings but it takes sew much time... and the scraps seem to multiply instead of decrease. Not sure how that happens... thanks for sharing your project with us!
ReplyDeleteStrings can be a messy project, but I love it. You have inspired me to get some out and play.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth you mini is lovely. Good for you for finishing it. It will be a lovely addition to your wall. Thanks for sharing today. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
ReplyDeleteSweet mini quilt. I don't use any foundations when I make string quilts, so you might try that next time if it helps make it easier for you?
ReplyDeleteI like your lovely mini!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great addition for your wall of mini's.
ReplyDeleteLovely mini. I struggled with this one as well, because once I got started I felt like I had structure. I enjoy the process more when it is on a whim.

ReplyDeleteJust found your blog through All About Strings Blog Hop. Your little quilt is really cute, and your colors are so pretty. I like string blocks too, but my space is such a mess before I finish! And the tub is still full!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun with it! I think strings are somewhat addicting ha ha! Your colors play so nicely with each other!
ReplyDeleteFun blog hop and your mini is perfect.

ReplyDeleteI love this and how warm it looks. Very pretty, Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to power through and you ended up with a super cute mini quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat mini quilt! Strings take forever to piece, but they are a great way to use up scraps. I try to use up strings after each projects, just making my own fabric with my strings...no size restriction or foundations used. Pressing with starch when I go to use them. They also make a great leader/ender project.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great mini to add to your wall. I think mini's are a great way to try out a pattern not have it eat up a lot of room. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat would make a great set of placemats.
ReplyDeletePretty! This will be a great mini quilt addition.
