I'm so happy to be participating in another of
Carla's wonderful blog hops!
Here's the list of today's participants:

The theme for this hop is stripes, and I made two small projects featuring them.
The first, is a wool felt mug rug that I'm calling "Up, Up, and Away." Those of you who are old enough will remember the 5th Dimension song of the same name:
Would you like to ride in my
beautiful balloon
Would you like to ride in my
beautiful balloon
We could float among the stars
together, you and I
For we can fly, we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful
balloon
The world's a nicer place in my
beautiful balloon
It wears a nicer face in my
beautiful balloon
We can sing a song and sail along
the silver sky
For we can fly, we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful
balloon
Suspended under a twilight canopy
We'll search the clouds for a
star to guide us
If by some chance you find
yourself loving me
We'll find a cloud to hide us
We'll keep the moon beside us
Love is waiting there in my
beautiful balloon
Way up in the air in my beautiful
balloon
If you'll hold my hand we'll
chase your dream across the sky
For we can, fly we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful
balloon
Balloon
Up, up, and away

If I weren't afraid of heights, a trip up, up and away in a balloon would sound pretty good these days. It'd be nice to be able escape everything!
But here on the ground, I settled for designing this 9" x 12" mug rug that features a striped hot air balloon:
It has a nice large area for your mug or glass to sit, while you dream about flying away too.
If you'd like to make one for yourself, or someone else, you can download the

My second project was born out of the desire to use up some of my many, many, many, many wool felt scraps. I have a huge stash of the stuff. So I decided to make a 12" x 12" candle/table mat using 1" x 4" strips. It's basically a string quilt, but instead of being pieced together, the wool felt strips are appliqued down onto a backing piece. Then the entire mat was backed with another 12" x 12" piece to hide all the stitching.
I used a dark blue embroidery floss for all the stitching. Some the stripes came out a little wonky, but overall I got the desired result!
