Orange You Glad Blog Hop -- My Day

I'm so happy to be participating in another fun hop hosted by Carla of Creatin' in the Sticks.

Here's the list of today's participants:

The theme for this hop is, obviously, the color orange. I've created a wool felt candle mat/large mug rug loosely based on Drunkards Path quilt blocks, which are curved pieced blocks.

To create my mat, I started with two background pieces of a brown wool felt measuring 12.5" square, and four 5.5" circles in four different shades of orange. I cut the circles into quarters, and used three of quarters from each color.

I appliqued the quarters onto one of the 12.5" background pieces using embroidery floss and a blanket stitch. Then, I blanket stitched the other 12.5" background piece to the back to cover up all the stitching.

Here's the finished piece:

  1. I must admit that since moving several years ago to Florida I cut way back on my use of wool but when I look at your work I am always tempted to pick it up again. Your work is so inviting. The oranges on the brown is a perfect choice for this hop. Thanks

  3. Pretty mat! I envy people who can use wool, unfortunately I'm allergic to it. So I just admire all the beautiful pieces other people make.
