Living in New England (Massachusetts) I really love Fall. The air starts cooling, a welcome change from the Summer heat, and the leaves start turning. There's nothing like a wide expanse of colorful foliage on a bright Fall day!

So I decided to represent those beautiful trees in my own simple way...with a Penny Rug design. If you're not familiar with what a Penny Rug is, you can read up on it here. They are traditionally made with felted wool, but can also be made with wool felt, which is what I primarily use. You can read about the difference in the two materials here. I use National Nonwovens WoolFelt, which you can explore here.

My design is called "Fall Foliage Penny Rug." It consists of tree trunks, colorful foliage atop, and a pile of fallen leaves at the base of each tree. It measures 16" and can be used to adorn a table top:

It's quick to stitch up using embroidery floss that matches the WoolFelt colors.
