Black & White Blog Hop

Black & White Blog Hop

A big thanks to Carla for bringing us this blog hop! Here's the list of today's participants:

I love the theme of this hop. It's simple and yet presented so many possibilities. For my project, I designed a wool felt penny rug. For those of you who don't know what a penny rug is, here's a link that gives a good explanation/history.

My penny rug is called "Waiting for Spring." It features a sheep standing on a snowy hill, and the perimeter is surrounded with snowflake "pennies." It's a simple design, sewn up in black and off-white.

The sheep has a few swirls on its fleece and a closed eye with eyelashes added with embroidery. The most time-consuming part of this project is cutting out all those snowflakes!

If you'd like to make it yourself, the pattern is now available in my Etsy shop.

  1. I would so love to make a penny rug, but I am very allergic to wool. Sheep are so perfect with this medium.

  2. Adorable sheep. Working with wool felt is so much fun. If only anywhere in this town sold it. We have to order wool felt.

  6. Thanks for the link on Penny quilt history. It was a great read. I love your piece. She has great personality, I think its the eyelashes. And the snow is so appropriate today in most of the US.

  7. Adorable! That is one of the cutest wool projects I've seen. The little round snowflakes around the edge take this sweet Black and White project over the top for sure. Thank you, Elizabeth for joining the B&W blog hop. You post is wonderful.

  13. How sweet. I like penny rugs, but have never made one, I guess because they are hand pieced. Thank you for sharing with us.

  14. The sheep is adorable. She is very contented looking. Actually, she looks as if she is chewing her cud and absolutely could not be more content. I had not thought about the amount of time needed to cut the snowflakes. If I'd cut a few at a time and sew a little, cut a little, I bet that task would not seem so mundane. Thanks for giving the hint about the snowflakes being a time guzzler. Thanks for designing an adorable pattern. Susan
