Yes I Can Ruffle!

I'm so happy to be participating in another blog hop. A big thanks to Amy and Madame Samm for all their efforts!

I was fortunate enough to win this Riley Blake gingham fabric from Vickie during the Kona blog hop. It looked like the perfect fabric to use in this ruffle hop...so that's what I did!
I made two small projects: A pincushion and a tea cozy, (shown here with two cups from my collection of Nicholas Mosse pottery).
The tea cozy was made using Madame Samm's lovely tutorial. I used the turquoise gingham for the lining, binding, tab top, and ruffled flower, and a grey solid for the body. The ruffled flower was made using a 3" x 36" strip, which I folded in half (wrong sides together) and then hand-gathered on the raw edge with a waxed hand-quilting thread. I formed it into a flower and stitched it to the tea cozy. Then I added a button in the center.
For my second project, I designed a square pincushion with a ruffle (made from the grey gingham).
This ruffle was made in a slightly different fashion from the one on the tea cozy. I used a 6” x 20” strip and folded it in half, right sides together. I sewed it with a 1/4" seam, and then turned it right side out. I pressed it with the seam in back (slightly off center), and then gathered it by hand-stitching it up the center. The center is then covered with a fabric strip. Here's a link to the detailed pattern on how to make the pincushion, which is my giveaway to you all.

Thanks for leaving a comment (I will reply, unless you are a no-reply blogger and don't leave me an email address), and please visit everyone else on today's list!
